Music school

Lessons

Whether first musical experiences, regular instrumental lessons or focused preparation for music studies: we advise families personally and find a suitable course together.

Early musical education

Singing, moving and making music for young children – with or without an accompanying adult.

Instruments & singing

Instrumental and singing lessons, individually or in small groups. Our teachers teach at all of the music school’s locations — which form of lessons and which location are right is something we arrange in person.

How you begin

It starts with a conversation. We ask about age, previous experience and how much practice time is realistic — and we say openly if an instrument currently has no free place or if a different start would make more sense.

If you are still undecided, you do not have to choose: at the taster days in July your child can get to know up to two instruments in a free trial lesson. For children who would like to discover several instruments, there is the Detective instrument search — a whole school year across the orchestral instruments.

Not on your own

Instrumental lessons here are not a solitary path. Anyone learning a wind or string instrument can play in an ensemble after only a few months — the Bläserbande and the Streichhölzer exist for exactly that.

Fees and registration

The lesson fees and the terms are set out under Fees & terms. Registration is done through the registration form; the office then gets in touch with a proposal for teacher, location and time.

Foundation subjects – Early musical education

Our elementary music courses accompany children from their first encounter with sounds and rhythms right up to choosing an instrument of their own.

Performing and membership

Twice a year you have the chance to present what you can do at the adults’ platform in the Dönneweg-Lauffer hall of the music school. Our teachers are happy to help you make contacts and form small ensembles with other adult pupils.

From the age of 27, membership of the music school’s association is required. There are no further conditions – simply register and get started.

What do lessons cost?

Lessons are billed as a monthly instalment. An individual lesson of 30 minutes a week costs €68.00 per month, 45 minutes €102.00; in a group of two the amount is halved (€34.00 and €51.00). The foundation courses of early musical education cost between €17.00 and €27.00 per month; choirs, bands and ensembles cost €12.00 and are free of charge alongside a foundation course or a main subject. Siblings receive a discount of 10 % each, or 20 % each for three children. The binding document is the schedule of fees in force from 1 April 2025.
