Bassoon

The bassoon is the bass of the woodwinds and has a tone that can be anything from comic to melancholy — often the voice in the orchestra that one remembers. It is large, so children usually start on a smaller fagottino. Bassoonists are rare and welcome in every orchestra. One teacher gives bassoon lessons — the same teacher also directs the junior wind orchestra.
