Music school

Taster days

Once a year the music school invites children to its instrument taster days. Children try out up to two instruments at their own pace – free of charge and with no obligation.

How a taster session works

About 20 minutes are set aside for each instrument. A teacher presents the instrument, explains it and guides the child through the first notes. Afterwards they advise on getting started, on lessons and on the right instrument size.

Parents are expressly part of the session. The advice is meant for child and parents together, because questions about practice time, an instrument on loan and costs concern the whole family.

When and where

The taster days take place in July, over one weekend at two locations:

The exact dates and times for the current year are published under News.

Booking is required

Time slots are assigned individually so that every child can try the instrument at their own pace and the teacher’s advice fits each child. Booking is therefore required – even if you only want to take a look at one instrument.

Get in touch by email at jms@jugendmusikschulen.de or by telephone on 07724 4968. Please tell us which instruments your child would like to try and which of the two days suits you.

You will receive the exact time of your slot by email shortly before the taster days.

Not sure which instrument?

Under Lessons we introduce every subject, many of them with a short video presenting the instrument. That often helps in narrowing down the two instruments your child would like to try.

After the taster days

Once your child has decided, you can register for lessons at any time. If you do not yet have an instrument of your own, the music school can provide an instrument on loan for many subjects. The conditions are set out under Fees & terms.
