Oboe

The oboe has the most penetrating tone in the orchestra — which is why it gives the tuning note. The double reed makes it demanding: breath control and caring for the reed are part of it from the start. Anyone who brings that patience plays an instrument that is never in the second row of an orchestra. Most people begin at primary school age or later. One teacher gives oboe lessons.
