Our music school

Part of the region since 1968

The Jugendmusikschule St. Georgen-Furtwangen is one of 214 music schools in Baden-Württemberg belonging to the state association of the Verband deutscher Musikschulen (VdM). As a non-profit institution, it is our task and our ambition to offer musical education to everyone. Through partnerships with day-care centres and mainstream schools we reach the very youngest children as well as children and young people from families with less access to education or in socially disadvantaged circumstances. Supporting and strengthening them in their personal development through musical training is as natural a part of the work of our trained music teachers as fostering exceptional talent, right up to preparation for music college.

We are a reliable partner in youth training for numerous wind orchestras in the region.
In 2018 the music school celebrated its 50th anniversary and has long been one of the region’s most important educational institutions for children and young people, and for adults too. We currently have around 1,500 pupil enrolments, which makes us one of the larger music schools in the state.

The music school was founded as an association in 1968 and now has eight member municipalities:
• St. Georgen
• Furtwangen
• Triberg
• Königsfeld
• Schonach
• Schönwald
• Vöhrenbach
• Mönchweiler

In all of these places we usually teach in rooms at the mainstream schools; in St. Georgen the lessons take place in the Haus der Vereine. The region around these municipalities hosts a large number of concerts and cultural events, most of which have links to the music school.
